Peru introduces international promotion strategy by showcasing tourism potential

Peru has embarked on an international tourism promotion strategy at full speed with the announcement of three pieces of great news for the sector.

They include the country’s participation at this year’s FITUR International Tourism Trade Fair in Spain, one of the largest in the world; Peru’s first place at Global Big Day, an international bird counting competition; and the launch of the international campaign “Awaken to Peru,” which has received a very good response.

In the case of FITUR 2021, being held on May 19-23, Peru’s Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) has set up a stall to promote the country’s outstanding segments, such as adventure and nature tourism, as well as culture and gastronomy.

The Peruvian delegation is headed by Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Claudia Cornejo and includes PromPeru’s Tourism Director Maria del Sol Velasquez. Besides, it comprises a large group of tour operators, travel agencies, hotels, airlines, railway companies, and land transport operators.

“Peru is restoring its presence in the global tourism through FITUR 2021. We hope Peruvian companies can close deals worth around US$4 million at this event,” Cornejo remarked.

“We want to highlight —to the tourism industry’s commercial chain— the efforts of our country in the implementation of biosafety protocols, as well as the delivery of Safe Travels stamps to various destinations,” she added.

The government official explained that the tourism promotion of Peru at this fair will focus on destinations that prompt the discovery of cultures, as well as outdoor activities incorporating sustainable practices.

About the fair

FITUR is the first appointment of the year for the world’s tourism professionals and the leading trade fair for inbound and outbound markets in Latin America.

At its 2020 staging, FITUR surpassed its participation record with 11,040 companies from 165 countries and regions, 150,011 trade visitors, and 111,089 visitors from the general public.
