The awards ceremony was held on October 5, in Antwerp, Flanders. Peru’s gastronomy features highest on the list with Central at No.4 and Maido at No.7.
Earlier this year Peruvian gastronomy received yet another accolade with the naming of chef Pía León as The World’s Best Female Chef. Now, Virgilio Martínez’s Central and Mitsuharu Tsumura’s Maido make the top 10 of this year’s The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021.
This year’s event saw restaurants from 26 countries across five continents place on the list, culminating in the announcement of a new No.1: Noma restaurant by chef René Redzepi in Copenhagen, Denmark. Latin America is represented by eight restaurants in the 50 Best list, from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and, of course, Peru.
