Paracas is worth visiting when traveling to Peru

Paracas has a little bit of everything: beaches, wildlife reserves, islands, museums, and yes, great food. Here’s why you should head south of Lima when traveling to Peru.

With an ever growing number of tourists visiting Peru, the country’s ancient mysteries aren’t so unfamiliar anymore. Cusco, Puno and Machu Picchu are all great, but there is plenty more to find when you crave adventure.

Here are five reasons to visit Paracas:

1. Paracas Nature Reserve

This massive national reserve is a haven for an impressive amount of wildlife. It’s well known for having the largest concentration of birds on earth, leaving nothing to the imagination. Book a guided tour to see all that the Paracas Nature Reserve has to offer.

2. Nasca excursion

From Paracas, you can book a flight tour of the nearby Nazca lines. Let your pilot indulge you on all there is to know concerning this ancient culture. The 90-minute flight will take you over amazing scenery, and will let you enjoy the Nazca lines the way they were meant to be seen. (Can you image the people who made these lines intended for them to be seen from anywhere else?)

3. Islas Ballestas

These islands are home to rare birds, penguins and seals. Take a guided tour for two hours to enjoy the majestic scenery, and see the sights that these islands have to offer. 100% better than a trip to the zoo!

4. Paracas History Museum

Learn about local history at the Paracas History Museum. Here you will find elongated skulls, pottery, tools, and many other things that were discovered in the pursuit of knowledge. The Paracas culture is more mysterious than the Incas, and much more ancient. Uncover the mystery here!

5. Playa Roja

There are a few beaches around the area, but Playa Roja is highly recommended. This beach is isolated, pristine, and serene. The geology is the most outstanding feature, as the iron oxide mingles with the area to create sand that’s a natural red color.
