Peru named world’s top cultural destination, leads world’s culinary destination list

Peru has been named World’s Leading Cultural Destination 2021 and World’s Leading Culinary Destination 2021 at the annual World Travel Awards (WTA), the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), as well as Peru’s Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru), reported on Thursday.

The announcement was made December 16, during a ceremony held in London (UK), in which the World Travel Awards unveiled the 2021 winners of its World categories.

Thus, the South American nation has won three World Travel Awards in the World categories, for being the world’s top cultural and culinary destination, and for being home of the world’s leading tourist attraction: Machu Picchu.

This year’s edition has been very auspicious for Peru, as these awards enhance the tourist quality of the country and turn it into a dream destination for travelers.

The World Travel Awards serve to recognize and reward excellence in the global travel and tourism sectors.

In the case of the World’s Leading Culinary Destination category, Peru was nominated along with Argentina, Australia, China, Colombia, France, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Spain, Thailand, U.S., and Vietnam.

In addition to Peru, the following destinations were nominated for World’s Leading Cultural Destination 2021: Azerbaijan, China, Cuba, France, India, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Oman, Russia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
