Implementation of new circuits in Machupicchu to be gradual until June 1

The Ministry of Culture has changed the date of implementation of new tourist circuits aimed at ensuring the sustainable use, preservation, and conservation of the llaqta of Machupicchu —Peru’s main tourist attraction, located in Urubamba province, Cusco region.

This was established by Ministerial Resolution No. 000080-2024-MC published in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Thursday.

The regulation specifies that this change in tourist circuits will come into effect gradually until next June 1

The date coincides with the entry into force of the dynamic capacity period in Machupicchu, which will allow up to 5,600 visitors per day.

The change in the implementation of tourist circuits in Machupicchu aims to guarantee the sustainable use, preservation, and conservation of the Inca citadel.

Initially, it was established that the new circuits would come into force until February 29, 2024.

In the recitals of the resolution, it is stated that the change of date is due to the fact that the implementation of the new tourist circuits in the area of Machupicchu has faced some setbacks that are being overcome, adding that significant progress has been made, which will allow a prompt implementation of the circuits.

The resolution also provides that the Ministry of Culture must approve the protocol for visiting the llaqta of Machupicchu within a maximum period of 60 calendar days.
