Every year, the prestigious media outlet Travel and Leisure (T+L) conducts the World’s Best Awards survey, asking its readers to share their opinions on travel experiences worldwide. With a high score of 87.47, T+L readers chose Cusco as the best city in Central and South America.
More than 186,000 people completed the survey this year, with over 700,000 votes.
This is the second consecutive year the southern Peruvian city has received this recognition.
Meanwhile, the Peruvian capital, Lima, was ranked fourth, moving up four spots from last year.
From its exquisite cuisine to its attractions, the magazine highlights every characteristic Cusco has to offer visitors.
“Visitors can explore Incan temples, sample local delicacies like Cuy al Horno (or roast guinea pig), and locate themselves centrally for a visit to Machupicchu,” the outlet stated.
Additionally, readers explained their choice.
“All the best things you could imagine are in this incredible city,” one reader underscored.
Cusco is an “amazing place to visit to go and see the wild history of the country,” another highlighted.
Cusco, the ideal destination for travelers
In a coordinated effort with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), PromPeru promotes Cusco region as a destination both domestically and internationally.
Thanks to these efforts, Mincetur has indicated that Cusco recovered pre-pandemic figures, with a 3% increase in tourist arrivals at Velasco Astete International Airport.
According to Turismo In, PromPeru’s strategic information service, U.S. travelers lead the visits, followed by tourists from Chile and France, all attracted by Cusco’s culture, nature and adventure.
There is no doubt that the country’s “historical capital” consolidates itself as an ideal destination, where history and modernity intertwine in an unforgettable experience.
