Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Elizabeth Galdo on Thursday highlighted the recent publication of the document titled “Report: Nature-Based Tourism and Adventure Tourism in the APEC Economies,” which underscores the enormous potential of Peru in these spheres, as well as those of Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the United States, and Hong Kong -a special administrative region of China.
The content —crafted by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) with the support of its peers in the aforementioned economies— shows the Peruvian territory as a destination with a long history of trekking and other outdoor activities, such as canoeing, which has been practiced in Lunahuana since the 1990s, the government official reported.
The document mentions surfing and mountain biking, which are among the most practiced activities in Peru. Similarly, it highlights the country’s great variety of ecosystems, as well as its flora and fauna.
“Peru is one of the countries with the most notable bird diversity (1,879 identified species). Peru is also home to the largest number of butterflies in the world, with more than 4,000 species in Cusco, the Amazon jungle, and the Manu Reserve in particular. This has served as the basis for nature-related activities,” the report states.
This document —prepared within the framework of Peru’s commitments as the next host of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum— joins the publications promoted by the Peruvian State to showcase the tourism sector’s potential.
Likewise, it includes information on regulations and standards in the matter, as well as good practices and lessons learned in Peru, Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the United States, and Hong Kong.
