Peru’s tourism sector might represent 2.9% of GDP and generate 1.3 million jobs this year, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon forecast recently.
These figures demonstrate, without any doubt, that tourism is a powerful source of wealth and employment for Peruvian citizens.
This was stated during the Peru Travel Mart presentation, the main platform for marketing and tourism offerings in the country -an event that was inaugurated by President Dina Boluarte.
Peru Travel Mart was expected to host 6,000 appointments during the two-day event and raise more than USD 18 million in sales of Peruvian tourism products and services for the world.
Therefore, more than 165 buyers from countries such as the United States, Canada, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, South Korea, China, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, and Brazil, among others, have arrived in Lima to negotiate with 150 Peruvian companies dedicated to tourism.
“Through Mincetur, the Government of Peru has the primary objective and commitment to (properly) position our country in the world, a task that would not be possible without the joint efforts of the private sector,” Minister Leon remarked.
As is known, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) and the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru) have been developing a series of promotional strategies and actions that highlight the richness and diversity of Peruvian regions.
“An example of this is the 17 fairs and 5 business roundtables on tourism held this year, with a business potential of S/212 million (about US$56 million) that will have a (positive) impact on different Peruvian regions,” Minister Leon mentioned.
In turn, President Dina Boluarte, in her opening speech, stated that Peru Travel Mart, since its inception in 2008, has been a fundamental pillar for the promotion of our country as a tourist destination of excellence.
“Today, we are meeting again with the aim of continuing to strengthen ties between national tour operators and international buyers, in a space that seeks to showcase the cultural, natural, and gastronomic richness of our beloved Peru,” she said.
Community tourism
Minister Desilu Leon also reported that, in addition to all the efforts deployed to strengthen tourism to our country, the community tourism strategy is being boosted, with the aim of directly benefiting the local economy, as well as households and communities.
“Thus, we will promote an authentic tourist experience, revaluing the natural and cultural riches of our country, because the possibilities for tourism in Peru are inexhaustible,” she stated.
