The new terminal of the Jorge Chavez International Airport is 98% complete and ready to begin operations on January 29, a representative of the operating company, Lima Airport Partners (LAP), announced.
During a visit to the airport located in Callao, LAP representative Karla Urdiales explained that they are conducting the “trial phase” of the new International Airport, which involves testing systems and processes with the entire airport community.
“This is an airport that will be three times larger than the current one. We have five service levels, and the most interesting thing is that it features cutting-edge technology, especially for passenger safety,” Urdiales said about the 935-hectare site on December 5.
The spokesperson added that the terminal will be capable of processing 300 carry-on bags per hour and 1,200 checked bags per hour.
The capital’s new airport will feature 56 boarding gates, 67 aircraft positions, and 46 boarding bridges —27 more than the current terminal.
The LAP representative also noted that this is South America’s “first airport city,” involving a USD 2 billion investment in the terminal, the runway tower, and the runway rehabilitation, which will be executed next year.
