Let’s ride our bikes and begin a journey through the high Andean plains of Cusco. On our way, we will visit the town of Maras and we will enjoy a fantastic view of the peaks Verónica and Chicón. Afterwards, following an ancient Inca trail, we will go to the salt mines of Maras, an impressive network of more than 3 thousand terraces where the salt has been harvested since the times of the Incas until now. We will also ride to the town of Chinchero, an extraordinary community where highly-qualified weavers will be waiting to show us their ancient techniques and Andean designs. Another interesting destination is the high pass of Lares, an old Inca road surrounded by spectacular views of the Urubamba mountain range. This is one of the best and most fun sections of the mountain bike descent you can find in the Sacred Valley. The adventure can also take us to Huaypo, a beautiful lagoon perched on the high Andes. From there, we will head to Moray, where we will learn more about the agriculture in the times of the empire, we will visit this ancient experimental and agricultural center. Afterwards we will have a smooth downhill to the community of Pachar and then we will proceed to the river Urubamba and to Ollantaytambo, known as the only Inca city still in existence, as the locals still maintain their customs living in their forefathers’ traditional stone houses, and using the water canals as they did in the times of the Incas.
