The route of the Andean Baroque is a scenic journey through one of the best expressions of the Baroque artistic movement in Peru. It comprises four temples: the Compañia, located in Cuscos’s Main Square, and the temples of Andahuaylillas, Huaro and Canincunca in the so-called Southern Valley. This area was a trading line even before the time of the Incas, where gold, silver, coca leaves and animal fibers were transported. The temples, operated and maintained by Jesuit priests, display one of the most impressive and appealing samples of the Andean Baroque in Peru. The church of Andahuaylillas is considered the crowning jewel of Colonial Cusco, with its magnificent murals and splendid paintings of religious themes. It is also known as the Sistine Chapel of the Americas.
