Peruvians pay tribute to their country’s flagship dish, Ceviche, as part of the National Ceviche Day, and the prestigious gastronomic guide Taste Atlas has included it in its top 10 most popular Latin American dishes list, PromPeru reported on Monday.
Known as the world atlas of food and drinks as well as the encyclopedia of flavors, TasteAtlas rates Ceviche as one of the most delicious culinary proposals for millions of people around the world.
“Ceviche is the national dish of Peru consisting of slices of raw fish or shellfish that is spiced with salt, onions, and chili peppers, then marinated in lime juice. Due to the acidity of lime juice, the texture of the fish changes, as does its color – from pink to white,” TasteAtlas described it.
According to PromPeru, this recognition confirms Peru’s culinary tradition as one of the most important ones in the world.
TasteAtlas is a widely accepted publication of foods and drinks, which has cataloged more than 10,000 foods and drinks around the globe.
At the beginning of the year, the same site rated Peruvian Ceviche as the most popular South American dish, which stood out among other delicacies such as dulce de leche, asado, and parrilla (Argentina), feijoada (Brazil), as well as arepa (Venezuela).
Likewise, TasteAtlas has included flavorful dishes like Tiradito and Ceviche Mixto in its top 10 most rated South American dishes list.
The site also collects and shares travelers’ reviews and ratings of the best places in Peru where these delicious dishes can be enjoyed.
