Transportation and Communications Minister, Paola Lazarte, recently affirmed that Peru is on its way to becoming one of the main air hubs in the region.
Lazarte made these remarks after participating in the ceremony marking the commencement of operations of the second landing strip and the new air traffic control tower at Jorge Chavez International Airport.
“We are witnessing an important step that is leading us to become one of the main air connection hubs across the continent, and all this is the result of the work promoted by the current Government,” she emphasized.
The Cabinet member stated that the infrastructure of the new air traffic control tower has been equipped with the latest technology.
“This tower, more than 60 meters high, will provide air traffic control for the two landing strips,” she remarked.
It should be noted that the new control tower is 65 meters high, and the second runway is 3,480 meters long.
In addition, more than 10 kilometers of new taxiways were built; besides, approach lights and beacon systems were installed, among other things.
This modern infrastructure is expected to serve all types of aircraft and provide better services to users.
