Lonely Planet ranks Lima as one of world’s best gastronomic destinations for 2023

Lonely Planet —the guide specializing in international travel— revealed its ‘Best in Travel’ list featuring the top destinations around the world for 2023; the Peruvian capital was included among the best places to travel and eat, Peru’s Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) highlighted on Wednesday.

The list by Lonely Planet —a global authority in the tourism sector— recommends visiting the South American country and enjoying the gastronomic offer of Lima by stressing that it is “a gastronomical delight centuries in the making.”

Likewise, it mentioned that our capital city is famous for cebiche and pisco cocktails, but it also provides travelers with the opportunity to enjoy fish and shellfish, as well as to get to know Peruvian food in depth and much more.

The selection of the best destinations falls into five categories: eat, unwind, connect, journey, and learn. Each selection seeks to underscore destinations and help international travelers choose their next trip abroad —based on their preferences and interests.

“In addition to being a relevant recognition, this list is a travel motivator that will help us position our country as the world’s leading culinary destination now that seasoned travelers are looking to resume their travels to new destinations, and our country presents an exceptional combination of unparalleled culture, nature, adventure, and gastronomy,” PromPeru Executive-President Amora Carbajal expressed.

It must be noted that every year Best in Travel lists begin with nominations by a broad community of Lonely Planet’s writers, bloggers, and publishing partners globally.

Thus, a panel of travel experts reduces the nominations to merely 30 destinations.

Each one is chosen for its present, unique experiences, impact factor, as well as constant commitment to sustainability, community, and diversity.

According to Lonely Planet Vice-President Tom Hall, the launch of this annual list of travel destinations and experiences comes at an exciting time for travel planning.

“2023 is shaping up to be the year to get out and explore. With much of the world firmly on the road to recovery, travelers are looking for different locations and experiences,” he underlined.
