New Jorge Chavez Airport to be operational from December 2024

Lima Airport Partners (LAP), operator of the Jorge Chavez International Airport, recently announced that the new international airport will be ready to operate in December this year, when the works and equipment for the expansion project of Peru’s main airport will be complete.

LAP stated that the works of this megaproject are 70% complete and will move into the equipment and test stage this year for an early start of operations.

“This progress was possible after achieving important construction milestones in the past few months, such as the implementation of the first boarding bridges, the state-of-the-art baggage-handling system, as well as the vehicle access road,” it posted on social media on January 10.

Interior finishes

The airport’s operator noted that it has also began the installation of interior finishes and the paving of parking areas and access roads to the airport.

“These are all infrastructure improvements that will allow us to offer passengers a world-class travel experience,” LAP emphasized.

The New Jorge Chavez International Airport will have the capacity to serve 30 million passengers per year as of 2025, thus strengthening its position as a key hub in the region and gateway to South America.

Commercial areas

LAP reported that progress has been made in the construction and awarding of new commercial areas of the new airport, including third-party investments that exceed USD 300 million, which will contribute to economic development and job creation in Peru.

“Thus, 2024 will mark the final chapter in the construction of the New Jorge Chavez Airport, after the Peruvian State gave us the lands for the expansion at the end of 2018,” it stated.
