Kuelap Fortress —the most emblematic tourist destination in Amazonas region— is already a safe tourist destination to welcome sightseers at times of COVID-19, as it received the International Safe Travels Stamp from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism.
The granting of this badge took place in Kuelap Archaeological Zone on Friday morning. The corresponding ceremony was led by the President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti, who was joined by Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Claudia Cornejo.
On the occasion, the Gocta and Chachapoyas-Huancas destinations also received this seal at the event.
The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) stressed that these tourist destinations stand out for their tradition, culture, archeology, and nature.
Besides, they offer visitors a unique experience that invites them to travel back in time and discover an enigmatic past represented by the great architectural monuments of Chachapoyas warriors.
Within this framework, Minister Claudia Cornejo stated that 22 Safe Travels tourist destinations have been recognized in various Peruvian regions to date, which confirms her sector’s commitment to supporting the reactivation of tourism, as long as health indicators allow so.
“I would like to salute the efforts made by the public-private technical teams of the three tourist destinations in recent months, which —led by the Regional Government of Amazonas and relying on the technical assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism— have managed to reach the objective and obtain the International Safe Travels Stamp, the first in the world for safety and hygiene in the face of COVID-19,” she expressed.
Mincetur mentioned that —in order to get this recognition— virtual and field work meetings were held, followed by the implementation of surveillance plans and sectoral health protocols for the prevention of COVID-19, audits, and monitoring efforts on tourism service providers along with the competent regional and local bodies.
“This would not be possible without a joint, serious, and committed work. In addition, the commitment of tourism sector agents and the population is very important. Only this way will we be able to give visitors the confidence to visit and discover these beautiful destinations,” she said.
