What COVID-19 documentation do I need to travel to Peru?

As of Sept. 6, 2021: To travel to Peru you will need to present a negative PCR test within 72 hours of travel (antigen test no longer requested) or present proof of two doses of COVID-19 vaccine. 

*The official decree does not make note of one-dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson), we will update once we have an answer.

Does Peru accept vaccination cards?

See above.

 

Is quarantine mandatory?

No, mandatory quarantine is no longer required for passengers coming in with negative COVID-19 test. Mandatory quarantine is only necessary for Peruvian citizens and residents coming from South Africa.

 

Are there travel restrictions for citizens of other countries?

The official decree, in effect as of Sept. 6, no longer states a restriction for travelers coming in from UK, Brazil and India. It only states a restriction for non-resident foreigners coming from South Africa, valid until September 19. 

 

Are the land borders open between Peru and Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia at the moment?

Land borders for travelers are still closed. We will update once they open!

 

What protection gear do I need to wear?

To enter Peru youmust wear 2 masks: a cloth mask + surgical. Two masks are also required in establishments with crowds (tourist sites, restaurants, stores, public transportation, etc.). Faceshields are not required.

 

What are the requirements if you do layover in Peru?

For layovers less than 16hrs, and you stay in the airport’s international zone, you don’t need to do anything extra, only what your final destination requires. If you are staying over 16hrs you need to pass through customs and follow all the requirements mentioned above.

 

Should I take a taxi from Lima’s airport?

Taxi services are available at the airport. In the national zone of the airport you will see taxi kiosks inside. There are also taxi service cars waiting outside, both national and international that you can hail. There are other taxi services around the city that you can call and book. Uber is also an option. At the moment the shuttle Airport Express Lima service is suspended.

 

What do I need to travel domestically in Peru?

You must travel wearing 2 masks, a cloth mask + surgical.

 

Which regions are in moderate, high, and very high risk levels?

The risk alert levels for the country are as follows, until September 19, 2021:

  • Moderate risk level (1am-4am curfew): All regions of Peru except the regions in high risk.
  • High risk level (11pm-4am cufew): Luya, Chachapoyas, Cangallo, La Mar, Paucar del Sara Sara, Azangaro and Carabaya.  

 

Are tourist attractions open?

The majority of attractions, including Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail, are open with a limited capacity according to the region they are located in.

 

Are restaurants open?

Yes! With limited indoor capacity depending on what risk region they are located in.

Do I need travel insurance?

It is not a requirement, however, we highly suggest to get one that covers the trip and has medical insurance.
