Machupicchu nominated as “South America’s Leading Tourist Attraction” at World Travel Awards

Machupicchu, the Peruvian tourism sector’s icon and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, is nominated as “South America’s Leading Tourist Attraction” at the World Travel Awards 2022 —also known as the world’s “Oscars of Tourism.”

Machupicchu has already won this category in previous years.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) infomred that voters should log on to the official World Travel Awards website or directly through the following link https://bit.ly/3Q8qBJk. There, each voter must register and cast their vote, showing our pride over the enigmatic and wonderful Inca citadel. Voting is open thru July 29, 2022.

In 2021, the Historic Sanctuary of Machupicchu was distinguished as the leading tourist attraction in South America, in the World Travel Awards’ regional version.

This recognition was achieved for the fourth consecutive year —following the editions in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The Peruvian wonder also obtained the highest award by being recognized as “World’s Leading Tourist Attraction” in the World Travel Awards’ global version last year. Foreign Trade-Tourism Minister Roberto Sanchez stressed that Machupicchu is deemed as Peru’s main and most visited tourist destination, and it has great beauty

gMoreover, the official stated that visiting it is a great experience because of the energy that surrounds those who visit this destination.

As is known, on July 7, 2007, Machupicchu was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. This title was awarded following an online voting, which selected the new wonders supported by than 100 million votes from all continents.
