Virtual tickets to Machupicchu for last six days of December sold out

The website of the Ministry of Culture (Mincul), which offers 3,044 virtual entrance tickets to the Inca citadel of Machupicchu, indicates that reservations for the last six days of December this year are sold out.

Purchasing tickets in advance shows that thousands aim to end 2023 in the Inca citadel of Machupicchu. However, there are still tickets available for other dates, for example, from December 11 to 25. Christmas, given its importance, will probably be the least visited day, since reservations are available on various schedules.

Meanwhile, 1,000 in-person tickets are offered per day in the city of Machupicchu Town, at the premises of the Ministry of Culture, by agreement of the cultural entity, the district municipality, and civil society.

Thus, people have to go to Machupicchu Town —also known as Aguas Calientes— to purchase these tickets which, starting tomorrow, December 1, can be purchased online as well. Once the tickets have been purchased, the holders will be able to enter the Inca Llaqta the next day.

The head of the Decentralized Culture Directorate (DDC) in Cusco, Maritza Rosa Candia, told Andina news agency that tickets to Machupicchu will be available starting January 4, 2024, adding that further details will be revealed in the following days.

However, members of the Machupicchu Management Unit (UGM) have not yet determined the new visitor capacity.

It should be pointed out that Ministerial Resolution No. 000255-2023-MC states that the permitted daily limit of 4,044 visitors will be effective until December 31 this year.

The Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, the Regional Government of Cusco, and the Municipality of Machupicchu would agree to increase the number of visits per day to 5,940 and are just waiting for the approval and issuance of a new resolution by the Ministry of Culture.
